In one of Africa's most inspiring locations, you will find a serene haven that invites you to embrace the wild beauty of nature.

Ngorongoro Lodge, Member of The Meliá Collection
is the second property of The Meliá Collection in Tanzania, part of Meliá Hotels International's range of singular and independent hotels, created to elevate the concept of experiential travel to the maximum and exceed all expectations. The lodge has been renovated down to the last detail paying the utmost respect to its exceptional location: the Ngorongoro Conservation Area - west of the city of Arusha, which also gives its name to the region, in northern Tanzania - declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. It is one of the few protected areas in Africa where human settlements are allowed.
A NATURAL TREASURE
TO BE ADMIRED

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a 26,247 square foot oasis where wildlife -more than 25,000 animals, including large mammals- make their way around an imposing crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, called Ngorongoro Crater.
Measuring 1969 feet deep, some 65,616 feet in diameter and formed approximately 3 million years ago, it’s believed to be an onomatopoeic word in the language of the Maasai to describe the sound of the bell that hangs around the neck of the lead cow in a herd. The semi-nomadic pastoralist ethnic group has inhabited this territory -as well as in Kenya- since time immemorial. This land, rich in savannahs, forests and swamps, is also of incalculable importance for its archaeological sites, which have yielded remains of the first hominids.
SUSTAINABILITY AND THE
LATEST  TECHNOLOGY
The complete renovation of Ngorongoro Lodge has been inspired by the natural beauty of the place where it is located and the native fauna that inhabits it. Special attention has been paid to the protection of the natural ecosystem and the Maasai culture to achieve the perfect integration into the landscape with the smallest ecological footprint. An innovative infrared system manages energy consumption, being practically self-sufficient; most of the products and consumables used are purchased from neighboring villages and the lodge produces water thanks to its own bottling plant.
MAXIMUM COMFORT AND
CULTURAL IMMERSION
The decoration of each room is based on Maasai traditions and artwork from nearby villages, so that every corner breathes authenticity -including the bathrooms, equipped with local products-. Each piece of furniture has neutral colors; the rooms are spacious and bright so that nothing distracts from the breathtaking views. Among the handmade decorative elements, homage is paid to traditional mural art in collaboration with the Sanaa project, a corporate social responsibility company that works closely with Meliá Hotels International. In this project, people with functional diversity are a fundamental pillar to empower and strengthen their talents, creating unique handmade pieces that give them a life purpose, dignity and the ability to perpetuate their creations around the world. A very special commitment to sustainability and solidarity by Meliá Hotels International.
